Spencer Laviolette

Senior Instructor

After 3 decades of martial arts experience, and training full-time since 2002, I bring a unique perspective to movement coaching that prioritizes health and longevity. Having trained martial arts throughout childhood, my journey as an adult began with combat sports, where I spent years training hard and working security in Vancouver's nightclub scene. This approach came at a cost: discomfort, pain, restricted mobility, and chronic injuries that periodically required taking time off training. This cycle was seemingly endless. Everything changed after a chance encounter with a Gong Fu Master who introduced me to a radically different approach to martial arts, one based on mechanical principles rather than muscular strength. Captivated by how this method delivered exceptional results without sacrificing health, I dropped everything to train full-time under him for 16 years, until his retirement. Within just two years of dedicated practice, I completely overcame chronic injuries that had plagued me for a decade. This profound healing practice ignited a passion for movement as a method for well-being that extends far beyond martial applications. As a coach, I specialize in teaching universal movement principles centred on balance, alignment, and relaxation, creating qualitative improvements in how we move and feel in our bodies. What sets this approach apart is its focus on self-sufficiency. Rather than creating dependency, I teach people fundamental principles that allow them to identify and correct their own movement inefficiencies and postural habits, empowering them to consistently improve on their own. I work with bodyworkers, martial artists, hobbyists, and anyone seeking to move with greater ease and vitality. Whether you're looking to address repetitive strain or posture-related issues, enhance performance, or simply move through life with greater grace and comfort, this approach offers a path to lasting change. And yes, it's actually fun!

Taylor Laviolette, RMT

Taylor James (he/him) is a Registered Massage Therapist, educator, and curriculum developer dedicated to advancing massage therapy education and practice.

In practice since 2007, Taylor has spent his career teaching, developing curriculum, and presenting on evidence-based approaches to musculoskeletal care. As a core instructor and subject matter expert at one of BC’s premier massage therapy colleges, he played a key role in shaping massage education and training future RMTs. He is also a co-developer of a new RMT curriculum set to launch soon, designed to foster a more integrated, adaptable, and clinically relevant approach to massage therapy education.

Taylor has had the honour of presenting at medical conferences to physicians, surgeons, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and mental health professionals, helping advance the conversation on modern, evidence-informed musculoskeletal care.

Massage therapy is his passion. He believes RMTs are uniquely positioned to provide high-value care for those living with musculoskeletal pain. Whether structurally focused, fascially oriented, or integrating craniovisceral techniques, there is room for everyone at the table. The real question is: Are we ready to update our story?

Taylor believes massage therapists are uniquely positioned to provide high-value care for people living with musculoskeletal pain. Whether structurally focused, fascially oriented, or integrating craniovisceral techniques, there is room for every practitioner at the table—an approach he calls pan-modality. The real question is: Are we ready to update our story?
